Baja Bound
Home to nature preserves, stunning beaches, and laid-back towns, Mexico’s South Baja region is a destination that promises a wonderful mix of adventure, culture, and relaxation. From the bohemian town of Todos Santos, with its chic boutiques and inspiring art galleries, to the energetic buzz of Cabo San Lucas that draws surfers, golfers, and party people alike, there is something for all tastes.
Must-Do: Spend as much time on — and under — the water as possible. The Sea of Cortez is called “the world’s aquarium” for good reason. Whales migrate to the area from December to April, and they are a wonder to behold up close during a boat tour. Snorkeling and scuba diving in Cabo Pulmo, home to an endless variety of tropical fish and curious sea creatures, are spectacular year-round activities.
Eat: For farm-fresh dining at its peak, San José del Cabo’s Flora Farms, Tamarindos, and ACRE each serve innovative menus using their own harvested ingredients. They also offer cooking classes, so you can learn to recreate your favorite dishes at home.
Day-Trip: Todos Santos, a seaside village that’s home to artists and surfers, is quickly becoming a Baja California Sur hotspot. Spend the day browsing galleries and boutiques and cool off with a drink at the infamously named Hotel California. Wrap up your excursion with a sunset dinner at El Mirador Oceanview Restaurant, offering panoramic vistas of the beach, desert, and mountains.
